School Council

Milestone School Council is made up of helpful, enthusiastic and thoughtful pupils from middle and senior departments. Members of Council listen to ideas from  classes and make things happen to improve the school.

What is the School Council?

The purpose of the School Council is to represent the views and opinions of pupils throughout the school. Pupils are elected in September and meet six times a year.

Issues that might be discussed in the school meetings include:

  • School equipment
  • Fundraising
  • Lunchtime Clubs
  • Playtime issues

How does the School Council work?

The School Council meets at least once a term during the year. We may meet more frequently if there are big events taking place that the pupils are helping to organise. The meetings are led with an agenda and minutes are recorded by the member of staff. Members of council are given the opportunity to discuss any issues they have brought to the meeting from their classes.

What have the School Council done recently?

The School Council have been finding ways of keeping the school community together and excited during the difficult time of Covid-19 and all the restrictions we have had to implement in school.

One aim as we come out of Covid-19 restrictions is to help increase the outdoor provision for all pupils across the school. We are working with Sam P who is our outdoor lead to do this. In support of this, in the 2020-2021 academic year the school council raised funds to purchase outdoor play equipment for senior and middle playgrounds. The aim in the 2021-2022 year is to purchase further equipment for all pupils to access.

In December 2021 the school council ran a Christmas fayre and welcomed pupils from across the school to attend, supporting pupils with their use of money and coin recognition. We raised £100 from this event.

In December 2021 the school council also supported Save The Children through Christmas Jumper Day and raised £76 for this charity.

We are also continuing to work on our Eco Schools Award and make sure our school is Eco Friendly. Our School Council reps are also our Eco-School reps and they are very excited to support the school on this continued journey.
